Come join the first Yoga for Depression and Anxiety class being co-sponsored by Athletics and Recreation and Student Health Services. The class will be similar to a standard yoga class but will highlight the connection between the mind, body, and breath and how certain aspects of yoga practice can help you. We hope that by the end of the four weeks you will feel more equipped to respond effectively to your own uncomfortable feeling states, whether anxious, depressed, or a combination.
Each class will offer a specific breathing technique so you will have a menu of options when needed. We will also share a weekly theme associated with yoga philosophies and some psychological concepts that complement our yoga practice. There will be time for anyone interested to share what they find useful and how their efforts to use the techniques are going throughout the week. Verbal participation is voluntary.
Participants will receive handouts reviewing in-class material. Yoga mats, blankets, and blocks will be provided.
All levels welcome.
The class is being led by an experienced, certified yoga teacher, Katrina Hacker, RYT200, and an experienced therapist, Lisa Master, LCSW.
NOTE: the first series is already in progress but you can email Lisa for permisison to join. The second series that begins march 30 is full, but encourage you to sign-up on the waitlist as some people may cancel.
