Office Assistant

Academic Year Office Hours: Monday-Friday 10am-noon and 2-4pm
Summer Office Hours: Monday-Thursday noon-5pm

Job Description

  • Assist the director in planning/executing athletics, intramurals, fitness, and outdoor adventures events & programs
  • Market and promote the department in forms of tabling and flyering
  • Aid in researching new initiatives, partnerships, and opportunities for the Department of Athletics and Recreation
  • Answer questions from in-person visits or over the phone regarding departmental programming
  • Facilitate group fitness classes (open room, collect waivers, take accurate attendance, first responder, liaison between director and fitness instructor)
  • Guide outdoor adventure excursions (if qualified)
  • Manage, move, and store equipment and sales inventories
  • Maintain database of participants
  • Organize and preserve an orderly office and work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Good Customer Service skills
  • Personable, reliable, responsible
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and safely
  • Can work independently with little supervision
  • A good team leader and member
  • Ability to carry 40 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal Work Study Award (see financial aid package)
  • Knowledge/experience/interest in sports, recreation, fitness, outdoor/wilderness activities
  • Can commit 2+ years to the position
  • Familiarity of the campus and its offices, and the surrounding area
  • Aptitude to fill other roles within the department such as intramural official, graphic designer, photographer, copy writer, webmaster, and outdoor adventures guide
Graphic Designer

Job Description

  • Design print/promotional materials such flyers, posters, and postcards
  • Create artwork for the web and recreational facilities
  • Design creative and unique t-shirts with 1-color, 2-color, 3-color and full color options

Required Qualifications

  • Efficient with Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Ability to layout images and text in a visually appealing way that’s also informative
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment, handle multiple tasks, and complete tasks quickly and effectively
  • Effective problem solver who can work with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter who combines a high level of creativity with strong organization skills
  • Personable, reliable, responsible

  • Prior graphic design experience
  • Flexibility and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Can commit 2+ years to the position

Mascot

Job Description

  • Perform in full costume as “Gnarls the Narwhal” at school functions such as Block Party, Commencement, Take your Daughter/Son to Work Day, sports contests, and alumni events
  • Commit to an assigned schedule
  • Maintain “Gnarls” costume
  • Assist in creating routines for promotional entertainment
  • Distribute promotional items and information
  • Interact with TNS community and children

Required Qualifications

  • Exudes school spirit, outgoing, willingness to perform wacky promotional activities
  • In good physical shape with ability to wear 30 pounds for up to 2 hours
  • Must be between 5’8” – 6’0” to fit into the costume
  • Available to work scheduled events
  • Personable, reliable, responsible
  • Good Customer Service skills
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and safely
