Narwhals on Ice

By Anna Sung

On Saturday, February 4, the Athletics and Recreation department hosted an ice skating event at Bryant Park. All the Narwhals came out and filled the rink with smiles and laughter. Everyone would agree that it was a success. These events are important for students to take a break from their studies and relieve some stress after a long week of classes. Everyone had a great time, despite some nerves about falling. Jewel, a fashion design student from Kanas City, Missouri said, “I am happy I get to ice skate today. I have been trying to ice skate in New York for the past three years so thank you New School.”

Some people at the event had never ice skated before, while it was very familiar to those from colder climates. Viral, a fashion marketing student from India says, “it never snows in India, so ice skating was a great experience.” Unlike Viral, Amy is from Michigan and when she goes ice skating, it reminds her of home. Gideon from Lang, are more advanced skaters and got some tips from Director Diane Yee. He looks forward to our next ice skating event on Sunday, February 26 to practice his new found skills. We hope you join us and Gideon on the ice at the end of the month. This upcoming weekend we are offer indoor rock climbing and archery lessons. For more information or to register, visit
