STONY BROOK, NY – The New School Narwhals (0-2-2) played against defending New York Metro Club League champions away from home in their second conference game of the season. Having played earlier in the day, the Narwhals knew this would be their toughest test mentally and physically of this embryonic season.
In a cagey affair, the first half played out as a 0-0 draw up until a long ball over the top had Narwhal captain Dashiell Fellner racing through on goal. A mistimed shot, led to a goalkeeper fumble straight to Eran Alpern on his debut to slot home for a couple of yards, his first goal of the season. The lead was short lived as a few minutes later; a scuffed clearance in the back line gave a chance to SBU striker, who slotted home calmly past tender Andres Domit.
If the first half was cagey, the second was even more so. A strong SBU side began to dictate play and press the Narwhals back onto their own 18 yards box. At times the Narwhals were able to release pressure through strong middle play by Fellner, Massicott and Mahmud. In the last ten minutes of regulation, the Narwhals showed their tremendous character by holding off for a well-earned draw, and their first point in conference play.
The Narwhals are back in action on Friday night, September 23rd for their third conference game of the season against Fordham University. The game will be played at Fordham’s Rose Hill Campus at 7:30PM.
